Thousands of people arrested in a web pornography crackdown by China and this will be push continuously in new year, according to report. The Chinese government announced the sweeping effort resulting in 5,394 arrests and 4,186 in criminal investigations, a fourfold increase over prior year. Based on Reuters reports, China’s Ministry of Public Security warned that in 2010 it will intensify punishments for illegal Internet operations, increase up monitoring, and press internet service providers to use preventive technology.
The China’s efforts are controversial to eradicate porn and other frowned upon content site, but they are not new. The country has blocked user generated content sites such Facebook, Twitter, Youtube. Google is said to acknowledged Chinese government to disable search feature with the goal to censoring pornography. It was also rumored that Google would not confirm that the Chinese government asked the search company to cencor related searches to Tiananmen Square around 20th anniversary of violent end to student protests there. A plan to require desktop monitoring software called Green Dam Youth Escort on all new PCs also be part of problem and backfired in summer 2009.
